Friday Finds: Week 2

Round two of my Friday Finds. Sit back, relax and enjoy!

Favorite Recipe: Easy Homemade Bread. I don't know what it is about yeast - but if a recipe calls for it, it's going to be a complete flop when I make it. At least this recipe is simple enough I may have a chance at making it correctly!

Favorite DIY: Do-It-Yourself Sensory Table. Cecilia won't be big enough to enjoy this until next summer, but what a fun idea to make your own sensory/water table. And it fits inside itself for storage - PERFECT!

Favorite Fashion: Lace Back Tank. Love the dainty lace on the back of this top. Lace is my new thing this summer. Throw some lace on it and I instantly want it!

Favorite House Idea: Command Center. As we're planning the functionality of our new home. One area I DESPERATELY need to get a handle on is our paper trail throughout the house. I love how she dedicated this area of the house to keep it all corralled.

Favorite Video: As a brunette, I may be a little biased about the hilariousness of this video of a brunette and blonde dog and their tricks. I laughed way harder than I should have at about 0:09. I'm not sure which one of my blonde friends or relatives this reminds me most of, but it's definitely worth a watch!

Favorite Random: 12 Quirky Iowa Summer Road Trips. With an extra little person this summer (who requires lots of extra luggage) our summer travels won't be too far. This list of 12 places to see in Iowa is a pretty good one. Hoping to cross a few off the list this year!

Who you gonna call? HOUSE MOVERS

So before we fully committed to this whole idea of picking a house up and moving it, we had to make sure we could find someone able to move a house as unique as this one. There is brick veneer on all four sides of the house, some areas of siding, a large stone fireplace and ivy covering one of the ends of the house. The house also has a front porch and a back porch...my dream come true!

As we did our research on the International Association of Structural Movers website, we found a handful of movers that were confident in their ability to move a brick house and willing to do it. After checking references, we finally narrowed our potential movers down to three companies within a 200 mile radius of our town. Over the next few weeks we had each of them come give us a bid on the cost to move our dream home. Some were thorough in their bidding, some were not.  In the end we decided to put our trust in the hands of Forbes House Moving out of Spirit Lake, Iowa. Keith took his time measuring and calculating and even drove the route we were thinking of taking to look for potential obstacles in the road. He made sure we had all our questions and concerns answered before he left that day. He also answered my most important question: "Will we be able to save the ivy?" We are hopeful it can stay intact :)

I know on the day of the big move I'll be an anxious mess. I can't imagine how I'll feel seeing my house cruising down the same highway I take to work everyday! Keith's track record and experience have put a lot of my fears to rest. Just look at the picture below. There is no ounce of worry on his face. He's just grinning from ear-to-ear as the house follows him down the street.

Now Keith is stuck with us :) We've called him with several questions already as we figure out what our next steps should be, but he hasn't seemed to mind our calls...yet! He is a wealth of knowledge and willing to share his knowledge with us and for that we are EXTREMELY THANKFUL!

Friday Finds: Week 1

Every Friday I'm going to feature my favorite things I found online in the past week. Now I can count my 3+ hours on Pinterest each day as "blog research". GENIUS!

Favorite Recipe: Candied Bacon Chocolate Chip Cookies...CAN YOU SAY YUM?! Anything that has bacon and chocolate chips in cookie form is good in my book!

Favorite DIY: Hammock Chair DIY. Where, oh where could I put this in our home? Looks like the perfect place to get lost in a book.

Favorite Fashion: Fun Grey Top. LOVE this. But it's a one-size-fits-all shirt. When you're a 6'0 woman this size tends to make you a bit nervous.

Favorite House Idea: Farmhouse Table. Detailed plans to make a farmhouse table. Nigel and I are going to attempt to make our new table out of the barnwood at his parent's house. Wish us luck.

Favorite Video: Dougie McBuckets is my secret boyfriend. I could go on and on about him. His decision to forgo the draft and come back for his senior season, his quiet leadership style, his humble personality amid all his fame, yadda yadda. He's pretty great! I'll still be a loyal Creighton fan next year, but it'll be a little tougher without my eye candy to watch :) It's fun to see videos of him like this. Clever, M&Ms. Really clever!

Favorite Random: Vintage Pyrex Bowls. I've made it my new mission to start collecting some of these eclectic Pyrex bowls in different patterns. Time to start searching garage sales!

Here We Go!

I've decided to start this blog to document our new house journey - both the actual journey our home is making and the journey we have ahead of us turning it into our home. I had such good intentions of blogging when we bought our current home. However, I think I had maybe 3 blog posts to my name after living in our home for 5 years.

But things are different now. Our new house has such a unique story that I just HAVE to document it. I also need a creative outlet that doesn't create a mess on our kitchen table like my crafting projects usually do. All good reasons for me to start Canoe to Augusta.

Now, to up the cuteness level of this boring introduction post - I have to throw in a picture of our Chunky Monkey - she's getting so big!
